WHAT'S ON IN BEDS EVENTS DIARY

Keep up to date with Amateur Drama in Bedfordshire with the BDA

Previously our main activity was to run the annual One-Act Drama Festival in Bedfordshire. This is now in it's 25th Year and is now held in Haynes. Entrants come from a wide area and many rural groups regularly participate. Some groups elect to go forward to the All England Finals and last year a local group went through all the area finals and won the competition.

We have now expanded the web site to provide information that is of interest to all Drama Groups (and their audiences) in the area.

In particular it's an easy way to find out where amateur productions are being staged.

We are currently allowing free entries on the website for all Bedfordshire Groups in our Groups listing and the "What's On" page.

Membership is required if you wish to enter the festival or if you wish to have display adverts and a write-up about your group on our pages. This costs £15 per annum.

We are now able to offer all Bedfordshire Drama Groups a web page here on this site - we will design it, so no IT knowlege is needed. If you have your own site we can add a link to it. There is a small fee per year.

ACTORS WANTED!

Building the set for THE MISER

The Wilstead Players are coming to the end of an amazing run of success in the rounds of The All-England Theatre Festival and other local Drama Festivals. Their entry, “Lear’s Daughters” by Elaine Feinstein and the Women’s Theatre Group, built on early successes at the Cambridge and Bedfordshire Drama Festivals in April, winning the latter outright and picking up awards for the Set, Costumes, Direction and Acting. This meant the group progressed to the Quarter-finals held at Haverhill in Suffolk where, once again, they triumphed. The following week they travelled to Maidenhead for the All-England Semi-finals. Here they were narrowly beaten by a team from Aylesbury, who later went on to win the English Final at Grays in Essex.
Undaunted, in early June the Players performed brilliantly at both the Welwyn Festival and at Haverhill’s own Drama Festival where they were placed second and first respectively, picking up further trophies for Set, Direction and Audience Appreciation. In fact, they lifted the trophy for Best Set/Presentation at each and every Festival they entered. They now have a clutch of 15 awards from their performances of this play – an unprecedented success for them.
The players gave a final performance on 9th July in Wilstead where a collection for a Battered Wife charity was made. A capacity audience were invited by Andy Calvert (Best Director in the BDA Festival 2008) to question the cast after the performance about the play and their roles.
